About the drug:

Tamoxifen Citrate is an anti-estrogen that is specially prescribed for breast cancer. It is also used for infertility, Gynecomystia, Ductal carcinoma either alone or with other medications. It locks the action of estrogen.
Uses of the drug:

Mamofen is used to treat breast cancer in pre- and post-menopausal women. It is the most common hormone for the male breast cancer treatment. It is also approved by the FDA for the prevention of breast cancer in women at high risk of developing the disease.
Working of the drug:

Tamoxifen competitively binds to estrogen receptors on tumor cells and other tissue targets, producing a nuclear complex that reduces the DNA synthesis and inhibits estrogen effects. Tamoxifen itself is a prodrug, having very low affinity for its target protein, the estrogen receptor. Tamoxifen causes cells to remain in the G0 and G1 phases (stationary phases) of the cell cycle. Because it prevents (pre)cancerous cells from dividing but does not cause cell death, Tamoxifen is cytostatic (stabilize the cell) rather than cytocidal (killing the cell).
